Pope John Paul the II was born on May 18 1920 in Poland. He had a hard early life because his mother died when he was nine. Another bad incident was when his brother died when he was 14 which was very hard for him. The biggest loss of his life was his dad at age 21, he was really close to his father because the rest of his family died early. Pope John Paul the II's real name was Karol Jozef Wojty. Pope John Paul the II entered St. Peters Square in 1981 and was shot (an attempt to assassinate him) and was seriously wounded. Interesting enough the bullet used in his assassination attempt was placed in the crown of an Our Lady of Fatima statue on May 13, 1982 because he was shot on the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima.
